Guru Hargobind Sahib was born at village Guru Ki Wadali (district Amritsar) on 5th July 1596. He succeeded Guru Arjan Sahib in 1606, at the age of eleven years. Following the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Sahib, a change had taken place in the character of Sikh Nation. There was a need to adopt both spiritual and political ways simultaneously, a character Guru Hargobind Sahib ji demonstrated by wearing two swords, one of Spiritual Power – Piri and the other of Military Power – Miri.
