Har Gobind ji became Guru on 11 June 1606 following in the footsteps of his father Guru Arjan Dev ji. During the Guruship ceremony he wore two swords, the one on his right side represented Piree (spiritual living) and that on his left stood for Miree (temporal power)
Guru Gobind Singh administered Pahul (ceremonial initiation into Khalsa) to Madho Das and gave him the new of Banda Singh Bahadur. He invested him with full political and military authority to lead the campaign in the Punjab against the inhumane crimes and the atrocities against Sikhs by the then rulers.
